What is the best wood for an outdoor swing set?
The best material for a premium outdoor swing set is 100% natural cedar. Unlike standard pressure-treated pine, which relies on harsh, synthetic chemicals to prevent decay, heirloom-grade cedar contains natural oils that automatically resist rot, fungus, and wood-destroying insects. It is also significantly less prone to warping, shrinking, or splintering. Every Kids Play set we sell is built by Backyard Discovery from 100% cedar, and the Family Play sets are built to the same standard by Backyard Adventures. That is why these sets stay structurally sound and splinter-free for decades.
Are wooden swing sets better than plastic or metal play structures?
Yes, premium wooden swing sets are widely considered superior to plastic and metal alternatives in durability, weight capacity, and aesthetics. Plastic sets degrade, fade, and become brittle under prolonged UV exposure, while metal sets are prone to rusting and can become dangerously hot in the summer sun. A solid cedar playground safely supports multiple children and adults, blends beautifully into a modern garden landscape, and can easily last through multiple generations.
What is the difference between the Kids Play and Family Play series?
The Kids Play Series is engineered for compact, modern gardens, offering feature-dense, standard-height forts perfect for children ages 2 to 12. The Family Play Series is built on a larger scale with heavier cedar framing, higher decks and larger obstacles, and is certified to EN 1176, the European public playground standard. Family Play sets are "grown-up friendly" and suited to hotels, campsites and large gardens. They are supplied to order: freight is quoted per project, so please contact us before ordering.
How difficult is it to assemble a Woodlit swing set?
There is no confusing paper manual to wrestle with. Every set we sell is fully supported by the interactive BILT® app from the manufacturer. You get 3D, step-by-step, voice-guided instructions right on your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to zoom and rotate every single hardware connection. If you prefer to skip the DIY route entirely, you can add our professional assembly service to a Kids Play order at checkout, and our crews will handle the entire build. For Family Play sets, installation is quoted together with the set.
How long does a premium cedar swing set last?
A cedar swing set is built to outlast your children's childhood. Cheaper wooden sets often show serious decay within a few years, whereas cedar resists rot without chemical treatment. We have sold these sets since 2007 and have never had one returned for rot or decay. Every set carries a 5-year warranty, and in practice they stay in the garden a great deal longer than that.
Do cedar swing sets require a lot of maintenance?
No. Because cedar is naturally resistant to moisture and insects, it requires significantly less maintenance than other woods. Left alone it weathers to a silver grey and keeps resisting rot. If you prefer to keep the warm colour, apply a standard water-based sealant every one to two years. Our warranty does not depend on you doing it. A quick look over the hardware once a year is all we ask.
How does delivery work for large garden playgrounds?
Woodlit provides free EU delivery on Kids Play swing sets, shipped from our warehouse in Poland and usually with you within two weeks. Because these are large, multi-box freight deliveries, our logistics team coordinates a scheduled drop-off at your home. Family Play sets ship by freight and are quoted per project, which is why we ask you to contact us before placing that order.
What is the 60-Day Guarantee?
Our promise that the set earns its place in your garden. If your kids aren’t outside more, tell us within 60 days of delivery and we’ll take it back: disassemble the set, pack it into the original boxes (keep them until you’re sure), and we arrange collection. A collection fee and a 15% restocking deduction apply, both stated before we book, and the rest is refunded once the set is back with us. It covers every Kids Play swing set.
What kind of warranty covers Woodlit playgrounds?
Every Woodlit Kids Play swing set is backed by a 5-year warranty covering the wood, metal and hardware against structural failure, with no maintenance conditions attached. Family Play sets carry a limited lifetime warranty on the above-ground wood, steel and hardware, and five years on the remaining components. On top of the warranty, every Kids Play set includes our 60-Day Guarantee: if the kids aren’t happy, we take it back.
